Hello all. I'm the proud new owner of a 4-door V-8 Maverick. While it started life as a '75, it's on it's way toward becoming retro'd back to a '70 look alike. I've wanted one of these since about 1980 and finally found one to begin the project. I'm road race-oriented, so the main focus will be bigger motor with late model fuel injection, bigger 4-wheel disc break system, 5-speed and an a 9" rear with a Detroit Locker LSD. Gonna start with the chassis, after removal of the engine and trans. Global West tubular suspension components and sub-frame connector/bracing are first on the list along with chassis weld reinforcement. Next, the new rear end to make it back to a roller. We will be keeping the stock moto as a mule while developing the new motor. I'm thinking about a GT-350 4-door clone look, with minilites. I have to sell my vintage Kawasaki superbike to fund the project, but I never get to ride it any more anyway. Any Kenny Roberts wannabes out there? Glad to become a new member. Suggestions?
I have one suggestion....post pics as the project progresses, and don't give up! Welcome to the boards.
Welcome to the board...lots of good people here. And ditto on the pictures as you progress. We love pictures.
welcome. sounds like a neat project. keep us up to date on your progress and let us know what parts fit your suspension.
Thanks to all of you MAV-Heads for the welcome. I'm an old hot roder from the nether-regions of the 60s, when I ran gassers at Oswego, Cordova and St.Pete/Tampa. But to continue, this is gonna be a text book case of how to make a family-oriented (4-doors) street rod on a budget. We're gonna use new and used stock and aftermarket components in a mix, where they will compliment each other. Our interest is in function, not winning shows. We'll make it pretty later. As the project continues we will photo-document each phase and use this board as a critique of our direction and success....or lack of same. You will all become a very real part of the direction this might go. I hope that you will all join in the efforts progress.
Welcome to the board. Sounds like an interesting and different project. Somebody here knows the answer to bout anything you can come up with. Dan
That sounds interesting, I was telling Matt that some one needs to develop a rear spoiler that looks like the grabber spoiler to fit a 4 door and look like it was factory. I do think the 4 doors have good lines, I just can't get myself to want one when I have 2 door cars available . Welcome to the board and we would love to see progress pics of your car. Also did anyone mention joining the MCCI? it is the club for the 70 to 77 maverick and comet enthuasist (spell check please ) there is a bimonthly news letter, mini meets held in your location (Ihope) and an annual Nationals, check it out if you get the chance. Full of great people, cars, and good times!
I think a low slung four door with big rolling stock and brakes to match would look great and making it handle itself on a road course is a fine project. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Welcome aboard.
Welcome to the board. We need more Kilgore's around here I guess you could say . Where are you from by chance? Just wanted to se if maybe we are cousin down the long road or something. Sounds like you got a fun project going there for ya.
AH a man after my own heart. That sounds like one cool four door. Keep us posted Oh BTW Welcome. Russ
