Hello, I'm Steve and I live in Logansport, LA I have a 1970 Maverick, mainly all I do is drag race. I have a 351w with a mightymite C-4 and still run the 8 inch with 4.11 and a minispool. It was a one owner with 49,000 miles on it with a 6 cylinder with a 3 speed, shouldnt have gutted it but I got the go fast bug. It has run a best of 10.90@123 but I still run the 302 headers, dang shocktowers. My future plans is to swap to ifs and put some real headers on it, and go to a 9 inch. Then spray it with 150 shot and run 9's!!!! Hey it sounds good anyway! Nice to be somewhere where i'm not the oddball running a maverick!

    Thanks

Thanks yall, I had to put longer studs and open-ended nuts and when I got the axles out they looked a little twisted, not real bad though. Guess a transbrake and slick might do that.:D But I know when I spray it something will break,It already does a 1.49 best 1.50 consistent short time!

i went for the overkill. i'm running 12.08 at 114 with a 302. but i've got a 9" with full spool and 33 spline moser axels. 4.33 richmond gears. only wanted 31 spline axels but at the time moser didn't warranty them, yet the 33's were warrantied for 10 years and they were the same price. :)

Steve, have you ever been to the FFW in Houston? I might've seen you there (hanging out with Ivy)?

    302 or 351?

 I know you can drop a 302 in a Maverick. But, a 351? Do you have make any modifications to the frame, motormounts, shocktowers, firewall, springs etc. I bet changing spark plugs can be a real hassle. Do 302's and 351's have the same block width? I have seen some stroker 302's that make 347 ci. That sounds pretty good if a 351 block is wider than a 302.

Welcome! Use the search function for 351W swap. Lots of discussions about it. But to generally answer your question, yes a 351W will fit, and no they are not the same width, the 351W is wider than the 302.

Yes a 351 will fit. It's one inch taller & one inch wider than a 302. It will fit without touching the shock towers. Cliff in Vancouver B.C. did the conversion. Looks great. He used 302 headers. I asked about changing the plugs also. He said he pulls the valve covers & it takes about 45 minutes to change the plugs. He goes by Grabber71. Haven't seen him on here in awhile. Where you at Cliff?
