when i get in my comet(C4) in the morning and start her up i'll sit there for a little while in park and let her warm up but after i shift into drive the car will just roll foward a little bit like its in netural for a few seconds then it feels like the gear will finally catch and she'll actually go into drive. im guessing this isnt normal because when i put my C4 maverick in drive it gets right into gear. once i get a ew miles on the comet it oesnt seem to be an issue. like if im a few miles up the road stoped at a light and put it in N and then back to D it goes right in gear. or if i go inside a stor or something real quick and come back out and everything is still at operating temp it doesnt seem to be an issue either. so it this a sign of things to come? i checked the fluid level and its fine, i guess i could drain it out and put new in.
Yep, your C4 is suffering from C4 morning sickness. The seals in the forward clutches are old, hard and brittle. There is only one cure...... replacement. It is time for a rebuild. You either rebuild yours or rebuild a core and then you swap. Either way while you are in there it's a great time to make it better.
the car spent quite a few years sitting behind a warehouse and the kid i bought it off of wants kind to it so i think alot of things are starting to shiow their head. do you think any tranny fluid addativies will make it happier untill i get motivated enough to put something new in there?(probably this spring)
There are things that you can add to the tranny to put off the rebuild but they are not good for the transmission. If you can find a liquid sealer (it will say that it swells the seals) add it to a warm transmission (after driving it for an hour) and then drive it for a half hour shifting it through all the gears. Then drain the fluid and refill with new fluid. That will do the least amount of damage and put off the rebuild for a while.
