Any "dealer specials" that anyone knows about? We are considering doing ours for the FAST series, but it has to run a production intake and such, so I am trying to find out if any dealers did any special performance versions of the Maverick in 1971
the only oem intake you'll probably find is going to be on a mustang. i don't believe a maverick ever came with a 4 barrel unless it was a dealer install.
This guy I met had a factory BOSS 302 maverick it might of even been a grabber shelby GT. At least he rememberd it that way it was very hard to keep the front wheels on the ground and he got alot of tickets so he sold it to some professional racer who won alot of races. Now I think its out west somewhere. True story I tells YA.
I think all of us have met someone like that. An old guy at a car show this summer told me his daughter bought a new Mav back in the 70s and it had a factory 390, and when I disagreed he got mad and said he knew what he was talking about because he used to work at a Mercury dealer! Back on topic - no factory 4-barrels on Mavericks available to the general public. But they make some pretty big 2-barrels you could put on there.
4 barrel We will probably still build her car to look like a factory 4 barrel 302 car... very few car show judges are Maverick experts, so I doubt any would ever dock us points for it. We just will not be allowed to race in the FAST series with it. I love how factory your car looks... but with so much parts sharing with Mustangs and such, I can see why!
headers I have a set of early cast iron HiPo 289 headers... may use them to look more "correct". I had them on my Fairlane for a while, still look great!
