I just got this carpet for my 73 mav. but the damn thing is all bunched up in spots and I'm having trouble figuring out where too cut the holes because it won't settle. I'm in Rhode Island and it's too damn cold for the carpet too warm up in the car so the backing will soften up. Any ideas??? Should I wait until it gets warm???

Yes the summer sun would really help!

One thing I have done, is to get it out of the box and lay it flat on our spare bed for several days. Some of the folds will work out that way. Unfortunately, the only time I've done the carpets have been in July and August down here in our Texas sun.

    Good luck!

Looks like I might be waiting

Well thank you very much for the replies and suggestions everyone, but it looks like it might be best to wait until summer.
I had already tried having in it inside next too a heater vent (forgot too mention that). And the heating gun idea would probably take too long.

I must say MaverickGrabber that looks like a great install.
Did you do that when it was warm out? That carpet looks like it came out perfect.

I laid it out upside down in the sun for about 3-4hrs it made it hot to install but it laid down good then just trim around the edges the carpet was well made and made to fit

When the guys laid the carpet for my house, they had a special stretching tool that made the carpet tight. It just might work on car carpet--Ten bucks says you can find one to rent.

Home carpet has tacking strips along the edge that grab the carpet and hold it every time they kick the strecher tool. Without these strips, the carpet would just pull back. Its not gonna help you in a car installation.

I agree with the previous posts. Wait until it's warm outside. I put A.C.C. carpet in my 72 last January. Even though I had the garage toasty warm (kinda), I just could not get the @#$%&* carpet to form to the contours of the floor pan. Ended up trimming too much off the sides and had to splice scrap pieces back on. Not my best work.

    Sincerely,

    I'll wait until summer

You know I tried too put a carpet in before this about a year ago but I ruined the damn thing by cutting it too short. So this time I'll definitely hold of so I can get it just right.
Happy Holidays Everyone and thanks for your advice
