I need to roll the wheelwell lips in order to fit my slicks on.I only need about a 1/4 inch more, but don't want to mess up the quarter doing so.The car has wheel well trim so if a bit of paint cracks it will be ok.Derek.
Good question...My 255s are rubbing on takeoff, when I "hunch down" and I need to do the same thing. I hear there is a fairly cheap tool that will do it, like $125, but I don't really want to spend that on only 2 fenders. If I had a lot of local friends I could share it with, that would be different. but only one guy locally and he runs 195s...
Maybe we could buy one, and loan it to the next guy on the forum for $5 less than we paid for it, and just keep passing it along. Eventually, it would be free for everyone, or someone will keep it for himself and only pay half (or less) of what it is worth. What do you guys think?
Thats what a friend of my dads told me to do roll a baseball bat around the tire and into the wheel well lip to fold it over.
I have cheap bolt on trac bars and my car body rises,my problem is when i turn it just scrubbs the lip.
I did a Maverick a few years ago, with a baseball bat, It wasn't easy, the lip is pretty thick, and most of the paint was gone when I was done (and some of the bat).
I did fine with 245s, but when I upped to 255s, it will rub on quick takeoffs (it will dip pretty deep on hard takeoffs). So I put he slapper bars back on to keep it from dipping so deep at takeoff. so far, so good...
So, what is the technique with the bat...just pound it slowly along the inside edge, or actually "roll" it along the outside of the mounted tire?
put it at the back of the tire and pull the car forward with a friend holding the bat at the back of the tire. It will pull the bat around with the tire and push the fender out
Ooooh! sounds kinda scary... Is that how you do it? I might buy the tool for $125 and do it bolted to the lug nuts...
nah ive never did it but i know of a few guys who done this...it autcully looks diecent if your VERY careful....
