finishing up the paint on the Comet. My side marker trim is less than stellar and from what I know can't be polished out. Does anybody have photos of theirs that they have done. I was thinking of satin black since the Comet is grabber blue.
I have a Viper Red Comet and I painted by side marker frames Satin Black and I think they look great .. In the process of " chroming" a couple sets and I'll flash some pics afterwards. Black should look good against that brilliant blue ! Cometized (Chip)
Do you have any other painted trim on the car? My opinion is that you need to be very cautious about mish-mashed color and trim combo's. You know the cars I'm talking about. Maybe they don't look "bad".. but there's something just "a little off" that you probably wouldn't want done to yours. There are some tricks for the eye based on the proportions, surrounding components and trim but I seriously believe continuity should be at the top of your list with such a nice car. Chrome trim and bumpers?.. or all trim painted?.. it would be nearly one way or the other to me. As a career painter, I will say this as a general rule. Black trim used on mid-tone or lighter paint jobs causes distraction to the eye and makes trim look larger in comparison to chrome. Oddly enough it also makes the lenses look smaller. Which is why I myself like blacked out trim best on black or darker colored cars. Same paint design principles work with houses, cars, and fences too. I got paid lots of money to make the eyeballs happy with detail work to accentuate strengths but there were just as many instances or probably more where I was trying to keep them from getting sore. It's all very subjective and you have to just figure out what makes your own eyes sore, is all. lol Personally.. I believe making utilitarian objects on this car standout more would distract from the other aspects of the cars design strengths. Probably why I like mono-chromatic paint schemes so much(body color trim sometimes helps the cars visual flow) but we all know it's possible to end up with too much of the same color too.
PS. wth?.. I just noticed Chip has no pictures of his car in the gallery? Isn't there some kind of forum rule says he has to share the eye candy with the other members? Car guy hoarding. lol
body color trim (bumpers, door handles, window trim, and tail light bezels) to me looks like poor masking skills, a little... Earl Scheibish ...to me.
Hi Roberts: I'll be sending a pic of the marker lights I've mentioned and a couple more . Thanks for the heads up. Chip
The comet will have a carbon fiber hood scoop and trunk lid with the integrated spoiler/end caps. The GT side stripe will be added in satin black or a charcoal gray if they can make it. The wheels are 17' magnum 500's with the satin black in between the spokes. The bumpers are recently chromed and handles are new as well. The boomerangs have some minor pitting so I'm considering painting them body color.
I might have a spare marker I'll paint satin black. I guess I could tape over the trim and paint satin black to get an idea. The tail panel was originally black but it seems like there might be too much going on if it's painted satin black. Grille is also black with the stainless slats. Window trim and quarter windows are stainless as is the windshield trim. Rain gutters have no trim and are body colored. Decisions, decisions. Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming.
This is my somewhat mono-chromatic Comet with a vinyl roof and chrome front bumper. The original idea was to paint the front bumper. I decided to leave it chrome. The exhausts are also painted.
