Has anyone on the board ever done this to their mav? Any color pictures? How hard is it? Pro's Con's? Sure does clean up the apperance.
Never done it Show does look sweet though. Dont look to hard. You would need a roller to get the corners like that . Its probably edge seamed to but I cant tell for sure. Later Tim "my comet gt"
Looks easy, My father and I did some of this type of stuff hopefully have some pics for you later. My dad and I took a lead pipe and viced it to our work bench. Using 2X4's and a hammer to bend the sheet metal around the pipe. Change the pipe for different defined bends. I just made it sound a little easier than it is but thats how we did it. Also when we messed with the heavy guages we used torch to heat the metal. 74Maverick, Thom
I've seen that before in an old HotRod Mag. They were showing ideas for your street machine or somthing.
71 gold ,Thats what I was telling you about that day at your house. I`ve got that book somewhere:confused:
rotflmao I thought the same. At least with that car they can't fall into the bumper like on my 74... lol
That should help cooling too 'cause the air has to go throught the radiator not over it. It looks GREAT!
I like the support bar running across, mounted in front of the shock towers. Never thought of that...
yea, its been done on occasion. Stiffen's up the body, prevents the shock towers from flexing too much. Believe it or not helps keep alignment from going out.
bar across the fenderwells the bar your talkin about is used quite a bit in road racing cars usally its refered to as a "monte carlo bar" why its called that I hve no idea.
Are there aftermarket monte carlo bars produced for our cars or do they have to be fabricated from, say, a Mustang bar?
MapleMav; no monte Carlo bars for the Mav, sorry. I won a mustang bar, 64/65, and 71gold has it to see if it fits. Traded him for a pair of turn signal lenses. The bar is about 1.5" too short, and the brackets are a bit different. A little welding and tweaking, and it should work fine. I have seen them on a lot of Mavs, so I know it can be done. Gotta get another bar... Earl
