I think the first Maverick I fell in love with was owned by or called Tubby Cloud. If my memory is correct(that could be a longshot as it was the '70's and there was some mind expanding going on!!!!!) it was blue and was one screamin' machine that ran at Fremont Dragstrip in California. Does anyone know of this car? Was it the drugs?.... or just a beautiful dream? BLUEMERC
Re: Tubby Cloud As I was searching something on google, the name Tubby Cloud caught my eye. In '68 I bought a '55 Chevy from Tubby, into which he had just put a 427/4 spd/5:38 posi to go racing at Fremont. He worked at a GM dealer when he built it and, for some reason, switched to a Ford dealer, hence my good luck on buying the '55. Only met him that one Saturday, but he gave me a ride thru 1st and 2nd in his new Ford drag car, on a residential street even! '63 Galaxie, I think it was. Pasted my eyeballs to the rear window. That must have been before his Maverick. Never ran into him again in my travels around NorCal strips with my B/Gas '55 I built in '72. I can tell you this...He knew how to build a quality and quick car. Red car pic is what I bought from Tubby for $800. Other one is B/Gasser at Fremont about '74.
Tubby Cloud Wow I was googling seeing if I could find any pics of his old Maverick and saw this post so I signed up to reply, Anyway Tubby passed away quite a few years ago I believe his son Randy still has the Maverick and owns a tranny shop over near Burlingame on that side of the bay and lives in Galt (a hell of a commute) the racecar mention in the previous post was probably his 64 Thunderbolt which he wrecked into a Dairyqueen if I remember correctly. The maverick had a Cleveleland with a fourspeed as he liked to shift anymore info could be provided by his very good friend and owner of Restoration Parts Source Tony Accarrizzi and yes he does have parts for Mavericks.
