I'm thinking about trying to make use of a 5 speed from a 91 f150 2wd for use on my 72 mav w/302. Gearing wont be bad as its a 2wd with no crawler gear. 5 speed is OD. Internal slave. Rear splines are 31 I believe, so Ill need the f150 yoke and possible lengthening or shortening of my driveshaft. The only drawback I can see is the shifter placement will make for slightly longer throws than the MR0D that came in the cars. But for this trans being in almost perfect shape and the price being next to nothing. Im willing to try it.

Anyone got any words of wisdom on this idea?

    Thanks

Naturally, I did that first. No matches met my search.

Ok, I figured it out. I had the spelling wrong. It's an M50D not MR0D. My mistake

No it is not the same as your ranger. There were two variants for the M50D. The ranger got the light duty which is the R1. The f150 got the medium duty which is the R2.

Sorry for the mix up. I will search again and see what I find.

    Adam Mav,
If your interested, I have a top-loader 3-speed that worked fine when we junked the car 5 years ago, (68 Ranchero) Hurst floor shifter included, and aluminum bell housing, no clutch or fork parts. Dont remember if it is a 157 or 164 tooth flywheel.Needs cleaned up. $ 75.00.Come get her! Gas is cheap right now. Im 15 miles East of Lansing.
    Regards.

Ill think about it. Im not really planning any trips right now as I'm working out of state till probably springtime.....but I appreciate the offer. Id like to stick with the hyd clutch setup since I have dual exhaust and headers. Might get kinda crowded in there without "making room" lol.

The M5ODR2 probably won't fit in the tunnel. And the 1 st gear will be useless in a car. There are two variants of the R2, one was the V6 trans for the 4.2 the other is an earlier V8 version. The only difference is the shifter placement. I've been looking for the V6 version for my V8 Ranger.

It's referred to as the "MazDOG" tranny among truck guys. Not very strong, reverse is geared so you could do 50mph backing up.First gear isn't really that low,one of the reasons it's not very well liked too.Having said that,I like the one in my '93 F150,but not enough to put it into a car.
