PaulS tipped me off to Broader Performance some time ago on another forum we both frequent, but that forum doesn't have a strong transmission presence like this forum does.

My car is a 67 Mustang coupe with 302 and a C4. I know my engine and my car well, but next to nothing about transmissions.

Since I don't want to change my rear end, I'm thinking about going the Broader Performance wide ratio C4 route. I was hoping somebody out there has used one and could tell me about their experiences and if they thought the cost was worth the performance they gained.

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure how to mark thread as subscribed, so making a post. He is semi-local, and I have a spare trans in the garage that needs to be rebuilt, so anxiously awaiting responses...

Good price and good service, I have had one of his transmissions in my previous Maverick. Mainly a Ford guy (y) Mine had a reverse manual valve body, lotsa trips down the dragstrip and still working great. Also had a torque convertor from him

    Lizer,
The Wide ratio planet kit won't change your performance once you are in 3rd gear. Since we spend most of our driving time in drive, third gear is where we need the acceleration. Even at the drag strip you are in third gear for the longest time.
You will, under most circumstances, get more performance with a rear-end gear change than you will out of the mild change in the wide ratio gearset.

Thanks Paul. Things like that are all good things I consider when selecting the build for my car. I'm careful and deliberate about each step, making sure each dollar is spent as well as possible (and I can say 'learning' has made many poorly spent dollars thus far!).

Assuming fast acceleration (near or at WOT) approximately at what speed is the car when it will hit third gear (I've never driven this car before)?

I was initially only concerned with 1-2 second gear for fun acceleration coming out of a stop light, and keeping rpms low in third to maintain at least some sort of decent cruising gas mileage (without going AOD). Subliminally what I'm hearing you say is I'm paying $1500 to get me up to 45 mph pretty fast and then I'm back to factory gearing.

Either way I'm not stuck or married to the wide ratio. Especially since the alternative means getting one of Jay's standard build C4's for considerably less which is a no brainer, and throwing in a rear end later.

The actual speed depends on your rear end ratio, tire size and the weight of the car but for a 3:1 rear end, 25" tire in a 3000 pound car if you hold the throttle to the floor from a standing stop your C4 will shift into 3rd gear at 44-4800 rpm or close to 75 mph.
