The 4.6 v-8 uses a different bellhousing than any other engine. A run-of-the-mill AOD wont fit. You'll have to find a late-model auto-overdrive trans, which they are electronically controlled, meaning you'll need one of those "baumannator" kits, which allows you to use it with a carb'd engine. It's available from Baumann engineering. Also, there's no speedo cable..it's a sensor, meaning you'll have to "engineer" a way to make the speedo work. Just curious, how'd you get the 4.6 to fit in the engine bay? Is is a SOHC or DOHC? I'd love to see it done! Great engines, but they are HUGE!

    4.6/AOD

What a can of worms you're looking at. 4.6 is about the same size and weight as a Boss 429. In really they are pretty close. The AOD to 4.6 is alos some real $$$$$$$ involved. If you're looking for some thing special, build yourself a Boss 302 with a AOD. Go with a 3.75-4.11 gear ratio.
Even a stock 302 will be better then a 4.6. If you still want to go with the 4.6 might as well do it right. Go with the 5.4, rack/pinion, power disc brakes.

    Hmmm

I already have a 4.6 with an AOD tranny out of a lincon mark VIII ... Im goin to use the Mustang II front end ... Im using the stock "brain " and a wiring harness from Painless wiring ...

My main concern was the fit ...

Ive been checking around and i think im just going to try to trade this 4.6 off for a 5.0 HO or something similar ... It seems the swap although it can be done might be more trouble than its worth :(

But if i use a 5.0 what will i do for an AOD tranny ? And How hard will that be ??

    AOD 4U

Piece of cake. Did it to my Maverick and the TV rod was the biggest concern. But that proved to be a piece of cake too. I even have a alunumuim driveshaft that goes right in there. Don't even have to cut it.

I, for one, would LOVE to see a late-model 4.6 or 5.4 (even better....a lightning 5.4) in a maverick. There was an old Galaxie at a car show a while back that had a 5.4 in it, and man, was it neat! If you've got the time, knowhow, and most importantly, the funds, by all means go for it!!:D
