    Hello everyone.

I'm looking for information on a Transmission swap.
    I have a 72 Grabber V8 Auto Floor Shift.

I want to install a AOD.

    Here's my Questions.

    1. What AOD transmission to use.
    2. Who make's the trans mount.
    3. What transmission cable do I use. I have a holley 600 CFM 4 Barrel on the engine now.
    4. What cable mounting bracket on the engine do I use.
    5. What "U" joint do I use with my Drive Shift.

If I missed anything I would appreciate it.

    Thanks, John

Depending on your engine build-up, a 3.90 (probably a 3.89) with an AOD would be quick and fast, as well as good on the highway.

Frank did this conversion right. I would definitely pay attention to him.

(Now I gotta go say something bad about him in another thread just to keep his normal sized)

    Terry,

    It's a 390 to 1 . It came out of a 68 F100 240 6 Cylinder Standard Transmission.
    28 splines.

I've got a 3.89:1 gear set. Ford must've rounded up on their ID tags or that was fluke gear for that year. Richmond Gear doesn't show a 3.90 gear for the 7.5, the 8, the 8.8, the 9, or the 9.5 rear ends.

However, if I could tell difference in the performance of 3.89 gear and 3.90 gear, I would really be one gifted and talented individual. Assuming 26.5" tall tire, 100 MPH with a 3.89 gear would have you running 4,932 RPM. With a 3.90, it would 4,945 RPM. Can you say, "big deal?"

By the way, welcome to the forum.:Handshake

    Terry,
    My miss take. It's a 370 to 1. Not a 390 to 1.
I'm planning on finding a wide ratio AOD.
One out of a late 90's model F series pick up.
Once in OD with 370's it will work out to be 250 to 1.
That should give the range I'm looking for with a 15 gallon gas tank.

    Thanks again, John

Thanks. I thought this 49-year old brain was malfunctioning. 3.70 gears and AOD will be nice. However, our F250 has 3.70 limited and automatic overdrive with a 7.5 EFI. It gets 11 MPG. Period. It gets that empty, loaded, trailer, no trailer.:hmmm:

If you get one out of a late '90's model, won't you need some kind of computer controller? I know in cars they ADOE's and you need a computer. Baumann Engineering, makes a stand-alone device for just the transmission.

    Wouldn't that be an AODE?
If so, that's a whole different ball of wax.

    Edit:
    Sorry, I didn't see Hawko's reply.
I walked away from the page and didn't refresh it before posting.

It is entirely possible that the trucks have E4OD's. Those are a smidge bigger than the C-6 and you fitment problems in a Maverick.

Ok you got me again. I've should of said, early 90's. F150's.
In a Vehicle that weighs APX 2700 lb's. Like our Mavericks / Comets
with 370's whould give you the benefits of a lower ratio ( 389 to 1 )
Plus in OD have the high-Way gear ( 250 to 1 ) for the long runs.

I'm most of the way through with my conversion. How do you adjust the Lokar downshift cable? Do I need to order this gauge the instructions suggest? thanks Phil

that is the...up shift... cable. the way i adjusted mine was...i took all the slack out of it... that way it starts building pressure from the start.
this needs to be right before you drive the car.
