Hello, From what I understand is it will bolt up with no cutting, but you will have to use a BFH to pound the trans tunnel and where it meets the firewall and no headers will clear the bigger bell housing. Jim
It will bolt to a Cleveland. That is my contribution... I don't know about the Mav part. I also would think that headers might fit easier with a Cleveland. The 351 is wider, and the pipes point downward, so all the clearance issues should be done with by the time the pipes are near the bell. Dave Edit: Make sure u use a 28 oz flexplate!
If you could find the right flywheel to match the engine and trans balance. I don't know of any that do.. would probably have to be aftermarket custom made..But as far as it fitting in the tunnel. I have an FMX in my 72 that is larger than my AOD and I did no cutting or hammering.. just made an adjustment to the crossmember. I did make my own motor mounts so I might be forward a little.
With a 302, eaders will pass the bellhousing just fine, looks like 6901s would be a perfect fit. Hooker super comps are really close to the pan, I had to ding a spot on my pan to make it all fit. 28oz 164tooth flywheel are not hard to come by, any large bellhousing C4 should have one, I think you're looking for Tbirds and trucks as donors. Mine came off an unknown 77-78 302, I think a truck engine. With manifolds, I modified my kickdown and shifter linkage to work, with headers, I'm running a custom cable shifter and a Lokar TV cable. The tranny crossmember takes a bit to get working, I recommend buying a Mustang AOD conversion crossmember or making your own. In my 74, no hammer was required until I got the Hooker Super Comps. When I first replied, I missed the 351 part. Should still be the same flywheel, I do believe.

Negative. But the 67-70 is semi close. Need to hack and weld it to work. http://www.mustangsplus.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MPFMP&Product_Code=10044&Category_Code=trans_mount
the Mustang conversion crossmember is a good start. The link to Mustangsandmore was what I referenced when I did my swap. Most of the info in that write up is pretty close to our swap, and it sounds a lot more complicated there.
Here is a site that covers alot of info for the aod spec and build up http://www.becontrols.com/tech/tech.htm
I had my engine rebuilt and balanced to the flywheel (71) comet. Do the torque converter bolts match up. And how much hammering? The best aftermarket crosmember match?
