So I'm finally to the point of starting the car, setting the timing and idle, and the dreaded TV cable. Got the car stared, runs great. The pressure on the transmission is 20psi. Adjusted the cable all the way out, still 20psi, pulled the cable as far as it would go, 20 psi. Rev the engine up the pressure goes up. This should be simple right. Less than 5psi at idle, 33 psi with the little small adjustment slug set in place. What am I missing?
Time to update the pain and suffering. Need help from some of auto transmission gurus out there. Ordered the AOD from Monster last year, don't do that, and finally got the car road ready. Hooked up the pressure gauge and get the 20 PSI at Idle, the TV valve does nothing. I though since I let it sit so long there was something sticking. I took the valve body out and found an extra check ball wedged into one of the hydraulic passages. See circled in red. I put it back together and it still has 20 PSI. I assume the valve body is what controls this. Monster is sending me a replacement but now the warranty is void. Yeah me. If that's not the problem, where is the next place to look? Thanks
It lives. I finally got to work on it a little bit. Added some more fluid. And took it for a test drive. If I have it in overdrive it still hunts for gears at 35. But it shifts up and down. In drive it no hunting. So in the city, just going to use drive. A few more days driving it, and it will be time to take it up on the HWY.
Just built an aod and put it in my comet. Working on the TV setting now also, I don't have a gage on it yet so I set it tight it's shifting way to late right now. It's all kinda nerve racking right now just working out all the little kinks. My aod has 4r70w internals.
As long as pressure is high enough the trans isn't slipping, you're golden... I've always adj TV cable to as short as possible and then lengthen till shifts are at proper point... After 25+ years, ain't lost one yet...
