I'm curious as to who on this forum is certified and in what fields for how long. Yea, to some it's a piece of paper, but I have taken the tests and have passed 6 tests. I hold only 5 at this time. I will probobly(?) not get recertified again cause I only work on my own vehicles, now that I have started my own gate company. I've been certified now for about 16 yrs.
My last pay rate was $20.32 fh at Pep Boys, where I worked for about 13 years or so off and on. Too many rules and politics for me there and their parts quality is some of the worst just like the higher up "white collar" supervisors who don't have a clue about the shop. Although they do sell some pretty good beef jerky and some room temp cooler pop to wash it down. Been about three years since I quit that gig. Thanks for reading, sorry the pic quality is poor, blugene.

    Yes I am an A.S.E. Master Tech......

Although I have found they are almost meaningless these days. You used to get more pay. The most I ever made flat rate was $26.00 per hour and that was only after 50 hours. It was a tier system I was at $19.00 flat rate and it went up $2.00 per every 10 hours after 20 up to $26.00. If you turned 60 hours you paid $26.00 for all 60 hrs. If you turned 19 hrs you only made $19 per hour turned.

I will no longer be a mechanic in the next couple of years. I have found I make just as much money working on the side for $25.00 to $35.00 an hour and saving people alot of money by not marking parts up if I supply them. Although when I build my house and a vary large garage I may have to mark the parts up a tad bit;) more overhead:29:

I am thinking about becoming a Vocational school teacher or god forbid a Nurse. Lotsa growth in the nursing industry for males. My wife has 1.5 years left in collge and then I will decide.

I was ASE Certified in Autobody back in the day, although I think it had a slightly different name back then.

Got several other Certs in my present field, Information Technology.
