Someone probably changed out one of the pannels. The ashtray option was in the LDO cars.

Our two 76's have none in the back, seems funny that they did not make them all the same, that what makes these cars so cool.

I ordered a 1974 Maverick Grabber new. The R/S rear seat ashtray was included with the deluxe interior option. A cigarette lighter was a seperate option. I work in a Ford assembly (29) years. Not everything is written in stone! Sometimes there are stock shortages so the will use what the plant has in stock for that day. It is called "the mix" If they run alot of interior decor option and they ran out of the ashtray panel it got the standard panel or vice versa! They will not hold a production system or hold cars unless it is a shut down item Option packages changed alot from model to model and year to year.
