    Mark,

I am posting this for Doug Bauer.....he recently installed the PST (or ADDCO) rear sway bar on one of his cars and after consulting with some of the guys who arrived early to the RoundUp, it may not be installed correctly. He said the instructions left a little to be desired, and used the photos from your site as a guide. However, he thinks that his measurement on the U-bolt that goes up into the frame may not be spaced correctly. Do you have a measurement on how far this should be from the rear axle, or any point of reference? He is contemplating fixing it here, and if we can get a good measurement, I am going to take a welder over tomorrow so "adjustments" can be made.

Any chance you can advise on this? He doesn't have access to the board from there, so I will take anything I can get to take back to him.

    Thanks in advance,

    Later,

I know Mark is bringing the car to the Round-Up.......so he may have already left.

    Craig,

Yep, that's what we were afraid of last night. Oh well, I guess he can talk to him at the RoundUp! He may still try to make the mods there.

Mark is still at home, getting his windshield replaced because it broke after they tried to seal it for the 3rd time.... He is supposed to leave this afternoon if they get it finished. I will tell him about this post when I talk to him later today.

Hi guys...I have not yet left...and I will probably be leaving early (like 4:00) tomorrow morning instead. The windshield took longer to be delivered and they may not have it done until 4:00 or so...knowing how things go I would probably not get loaded up and outta here until 6 or 7...which would get me there pretty late. When I get the car back I will crawl under there and take a look and get some measurements...

I have made it official and moved my reservation from tonight to tomorrow.(glad the hotel let me do this and not get charged for the room tonight!) The glass shop is still working on the car. *SIGH* I knew this was a possibility, but I felt it was worth it. I didn't want to drive down there with a cracked and leaky windshield. Of course the forecast is not really calling for rain between now and Sunday...but forecasts can change and two weeks ago the car was caught in enough rain to leave 2" of water on the front floor pans and I had to pull the seats and carpet and throw out/replace the heat foil padding underneath. I would rather not do that again...:) Serves me right for not thoroughly leak testing the windshield months ago...but then again the severity of the leak only really showed up under extreme rain...didn't seem that bad with just the hose when I washed it. Anyway...still waiting to get the car back..will look at the rear bar when I do.

I realized I never really told the saga of the windshield here...I guess this is as good a place as any since the title of the post has my name in it. :)

Last summer on the way home from the Roundup '04 I drove through some rain and noticed that the windshield was leaking a bit. This is something I am very familiar with. I went around and around on my '77 years ago and a couple of different glass shops just didn't understand that you can't just dump the windshield and gasket in these cars...you have to use a sealer between the gasket and the pinchweld and likely between the glass and the rubber. I didn't look foreward to going through the whole thing again...

This past Father's day I was at a family get together and found out my wife's cousin works at a body shop. I ask him about my glass problem and he tells me about this glass guy he uses; says they can stop by the house and seal it right in my driveway. He does stop by and I am in the middle of working on a friend's brakes. He spends about an hour or so doing his thing, but I am not watching everything he does. He tells me it should be fine now, wait a couple days before exposing to rain or water and to give him a call if I notice any leaking in the future. Cool.

Flash forward to a couple Saturdays ago. I decide to drive the Mav into my Saturday job in spite if the threat of rain. I figured that the windshield was pretty well OK, and even if it leaks, it wasn't that bad.
    I am very wrong.
We end up getting a deluge of about 5" of rain in two hours. Although the windshield doesn't appear to be leaking all that badly, there is a virtual waterfall under the dash. The aforementioned 2" of water really makes a mess and I take the car apart to dry out the carpet before it molds.
Long story short, the guy I had come to my house is unreliable and I don't want to mess with him anymore. I cut my losses and decide to take it to a shop my dad's car buddies have used. Turns out my dad knows a couple people who work there.(why didn't I just go here first?! DOH!)
Indeed this is a good place. Small shop, and they know what they are doing. It takes 2 1/2 days, but this guy finally gets the windshield to pass a leak test, all without even removing the windshield. Life is good.
The evening I take the car home to put the interior back in(last Friday), I am sitting in the garage cutting out new padding when I look up at the car and see a silver line in the lower driver's side corner...is that?..no...ARRGH!!! IT'S A $%@#% CRACK!! Nobody was even near the car. It just spontaneously cracked.
This story is getting very long so I will try and cut to the chase. I take the car in Monday..the nearest maverick windshield is in Columbus, OH and the earliest it can be delivered is Wednesday morning(today). The glass guy says he can get it done and have me on the way to the Roundup. Glass gets delivered later than planned and now here I sit.
Good thing: Haggarty insurance will pay for the new windshield w/ no deductible. :)

I think I how how your windshield could have cracked, Mark. How many times did someone remove and replace the lower moldings when they tried to seal the windshield? They can be real buggers to get back on the clips once they are removed. As I remember, Dale put new clips on the car for the lower moldings, so removing the moldings again would be pretty tough to do. Getting them back on again isn't easy either. Sometimes they need to be "helped" a little by hitting them with a rubber hammer or the heel of your hand. That's were you can run into problems. All it takes is a small stone or something to get between the molding and the glass and someone wacking the molding onto the clips and you can endup with a slow speading crack. The same thing can happen if the molding clip removal tool catches on the edge of the glass and chips it. Anyway, I'm glad you got the water problem fixed and the windshield replaced in time for the Roundup. Have a great time!:D
