    Hi all,
Next weekend I am going to install a 67 Mustang shifter in my Maverick. I need to know where exactly on the transmission hump to cut the hole. I notice that there are two dimples in the sheet metal on the hump. These look like they are placed there for a reason; why else would there be two dimples in a line parallel to the sides of the car? Anyway, thanks for any help in my quest.

P.S. With the installation on this shifter, I will be able tofire up the Mav and srive it for the forst time in quite a while. This is exciting!!

    Anyone??

I know this swap has been done many, many times before me, and I know all the other aspects of the swap, but I just need to know where to cut the hole, because once it's cut, it's cut. Dimensions? Diagrams? Pictures? Thanks for any help guys.

Corbin; put the trans in neutral, put the linkage from the shift arm to the shifter up, and mark where it lands on the tunnel. That will be in the middle of the shifter travel from park to low gear. Then, cut your hole there. Just be carefull, it doesn't have to be very big. The '67 bezel will have to have a place to mount, so you know it will be small. Mine is close to the center of the tunnel, and looks very good. It is small, and clean looking. Good luck. BTW, did you fine the manual shift arm you were looking for?

    Yes, thank you..

    Hi Earl,
I did find the shift lever, and they are really cheap. Thanks for your offer and advise, they make everything much more simple and easier to handle. Thanks for the tips.

Is that the shifter arm for the column to floor conversion on the C4 or is it for the Mustang shifter? I may need to get one of those myself. I have acquired a stock Mav floor-shifter for my tranny, and I'm hearing the on in there may not work even flipped over.

Matt; it is the manual shift arm inside the trans (c-4), and it protrudes to the outside. Has a groove in it so the dog on the switch can fit in and move the switch. Easy to find, as Corbin said. If you have any questions, let me know. I will get some pics this weekend and put them up.

Apparently I'm no good at looking. :D I searched the internet and found nothing about it. Would I just call up a tranny place or parts store?

Matt; any good transmission parts house can get one, probably used, but good. If you can't find one, I will get one from here in Atlanta, and ship it for you. Just mail me and let me know. I will be out of town until Saturday, so wait till then if you can. BTW, almost any C-4 after 73 will have this shift arm, as they all went to the trans mounted neutral safety/backup switch. Let me know,
    Earl

Really? I guess I need to crawl under the 77 and take a closer look (after a little degreasing :D). The shop manuals I have are for the 71, so I didn't even consider that the 77 might be different. It will probably be a few months before I even start messing with it, unless I get a wild hair and decide to pull the tranny to have it rebuilt. Thanks for the info and the offer. If I don't have any luck, I'll shoot you an email.
