A friend brought a 73 Mav over yesterday and we converted it to a 4 bbl. He had the Edlebrock performer and carb set up, both new. Installation went smooth other than we couldn't use the kickdown adapter assembly because the Edlebrock carb is so wide that with the adapter on, it hits the valve covers. So we just took the kickdown rod off. I have never had a rod on my 77 for years and this has never been a problem. It is an ac car so it has the vacuum operated controls. For a vacuum source we took the power brake tap off the back of the carb and ran it to the vacuum tree on the firewall. All vacuum lines are run to this tree. Now the car will not shift. Put it in drive and it stays in low, will not shift to second, unless you manually shift to second. Then it just stays in second. If you shift back into drive, it goes back to low. The thing worked fine before the conversion. I'm a 4 speed guy myself so automatics are black magic to me. I know there is a modulator that needs vacuum and it is hooked to the vacuum tree along with everything else like it was originally. I figure it must be a vacuum problem but its got me stumped.

Never mind, I found the problem. Turns out the vacuum manifold on the firewall is actually 2 separate sections instead of 1 like I thought. So I wasent getting any vacuum to the modulator. Guess I get another one of those "DA" awards. My wall is getting full.
