[1972 Maverick Grabber -- 289 with Pertronix ignition (no points) and Pertronix Coil] I haven't been able to get my Grabber going because I had no spark. (The car is definitely getting gas). I put a new coil in and it started right up immediately. I was going to take a trip out in it and as I was warming it up, it died. I tried to restart it, but it seemed my starter was turning really slow like a low battery. It turned out to be the ground wire on the block was finger loose. I tighted it up and the car turns over, but I'm not getting any spark again. 1). Did I fry the new coil with the loose ground? (It's apparently been loose for some time). 2). Is it just a coincidence that I might have just wiggled a loose connection near the coil and that is the real problem? 3). Is there a way to test the coil? 4). Any ideas what else might be my problem? Thanks for any help you can give me. -Doug
dab, i've got a 64 fairlane also with a 302. it recently developed a similar problem. i wasn't getting any spark either. i ran a wire from the pos. side of the solenoid to the coil. started right up. only problem was shutting it off. guess i should of had a on-off swith in the wire. anyway started right up so i know the coil is good. only other thing in line with the original wiring is the voltage reg. does anyone know how to test this or do i just replace it. i'm off this next week so i'll play with it then. good luck and i'll report back what happens with mine.
bad coil I use a pertronixs igniter on my 73 302 but I run a high out put accel coil, have not had a bit of trouble, and no points to burn up
It wasn't the Coil I got my Grabber going! Thanks, Don for the suggestion of jumping a wire from solenoid to coil. My coil was just fine. I'm not sure what the problem was, but it seems to be running fine now. The car is running a little rich. Maybe since the car had sat for almost 2 weeks, it was just too hard to start with a rich mixture. -Doug
