Im mounting my battery in trunk, and im grounding it to the trunk floor, I have a Trunk mat back there.... now my question is should i cut out an area of the mat so the ground isnt touching the mat, OR Should i just bolt it to floor and lay the mat on top of it? I Know Battery cables can get hot sometimes.... ??

I just ran the negative cable to a bolt that i put through the trunk lid hinge. I'd think if you just lay the mat on top of it, it would look like a lump under there.:)

you should be fine with the cable covered by the mat. it only heats up if the cable is not big enough or the contact to the sheetmetal is not good enought. make shure you stip the paint off and if you can find one put a star type lock washer between the cable and trunk floor.

Well my battery is in the trunk also. I welded a 3/8 X 3/4 bolt to the frame directly below the battery. I run my ground to that bolt, star washer and a lock nut and tighten. paint the hole thing with 3 coats and no more ground problems there. I run 0 guage wire to the selenoid. No problems.:thumbs2:

Bryant is correct...as long as the cable is sufficient in size and your connections are solid and sound...you wont have a heat problem.Venting the battery is the fun part...
Unless you get a ventless battery.

Thats actually a good idea to just ground the battery to the Box !.... I bought a sealed AC DELCO battery for my trunk.... not sure if its vented or not

There is sealed(non serviceable) and ventless(also non serviceable) as well as traditional serviceable vented batteries.Optima spiral core batteries are a good example of a non vented battery.

I went to the bolt that holds the rear bumper on with mine. But like everyone said, make sure to remove the paint and to use a thick enough cable. As for venting, I'm using the Optima and I've vented it externally anyway. No reason to have tech questioning anything.

Not a real fan of using body for ground to engine, whole lotta talk on that one! If you are going that route, make sure you have a good ground from engine an electronics to frame! If you run into problems,, run your battery ground wire up to engine then separate ground wires to areas needing ground.

ive never had any problems using the body as a ground. the motor does have a ground cable to the body. ive only seen problems when people dont put a ground from the motor to the body.

There is more metal in the frame (body support) and body panels than any cable you can run. You do have to run a BIG ground wire to the engine for the starter and alternator.
