Are there any articles on this site that deals with redoing the battery cases and tray? I'm going to be tackling this project this weekend. Was wondering what other people did to there's to repair it. Mine is rusted through.

Suggest you buy a new one if its too far gone. I tried restoring the battery tray from my 70...it was too far gone. If you decide to tackle it, try using Muriatic Acid. Be careful though, gloves and goggles.

Below is the process I previously used on my rusted bumpers.

I used the process from this forum, http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=55037&highlight=muratic+acid
    Muriatic Acid works wonders!

Instead of diluting the Muriatic Acid, I used it full strength applying with a spray bottle, most of the chrome came off down to the copper.

I sprayed the Muriatic Acid off with water and then sanded the bumper with 120 grit sandpaper. I then neutralized with the ospho.

After this process I found the pitting is not as bad as I thought, I think I will be able to fill it with primer.

You can buy a new Maverick battery tray, but it doesn't come with the bottom part. If yours is too far gone I'd put a request in the parts wanted section and get one in decent shape.Do a search here for battery tray.:)

I used the mustang tray with the Maverick bracket...
I moved my battery to the rear so I am no longer using that battery tray...if interested in it shoot me a PM.

Here's what I did yesterday... fabbed and welded in a new tray out of 22GA cold rolled. Had some minor oil-canning, so, the two burn marks are where I heated and then shrunk the metal. Tight as a drum now. It's hard to tell from the photos, but, I mounted the new tray at a pitch for water-shed. Just temporarily sprayed with paint to help prevent further rust until I can get back to it for proper prep, bodywork and paint. Gonna be the mount for the MSD box after batttery gets moved to the trunk. Good luck with yours.

This must be a common problem on Mavericks.

I've had solid cars and toasted cars - more of a leaky battery problem than a salted roads problem if you ask me.

They can be fixed using the repop Mustang inner fender panel and shaping it to fit the Maverick. Here is a before and after of the repair using a 67/68 Mustang panel that already has the battery support plate welded on it (it is under the flat part - the battery tray bolts to it).

Looks great! I've got do to the same repair. Do you know what that panel is called and which Mustang part suppliers carry it? Do you happen to have have a pic of the underside? Looks like this piece has the bolt hole threads for the bottom of the battery box in it, too.

I used a 67-68 Mustang front inner apron. You can buy it at any Mustang place - here is a link to Mustangs Unlimited. And yes, make sure to get one that has the battery tray support plate welded into place. It will save you some time.

It is NOT a direct fit and will require a good bit of fabrication skills to patch a Maverick and make it look stock.

Well... there is no, actual, battery tray under the new sheet metal. I took it all out and just welded in a piece of 22 GA. Since the battery is getting moved to the trunk, I didn't really need the heavier piece of tray that is spot welded to the bottom for support. The new "tray" is gonna be for the MSD now.

I've seen many with this isssue. Also, I have seen many interesting solutions for this issue.
