raced at Englishtown sunday, DA was real good -300ft, ran a 10.505 @126.78 with a 1.420 60ft, this was leaving 4000prm on the converter. On Wednesday, the DA was around 0 DA, and I had run a 10.527 when I lost second round, so I decided to take a timeshot leaving at 5000, and it went 10.506 at 126.26, and ran a 60ft of 1.390, so im thinking I would have gone a 10.47 if I would have left high on sunday, im waiting to see a photo, because I was told when I went the 1.390 60ft, it left with the front tires 3ft in the air. not bad for a 9inch tire Duane
Man, that's some good air lol! What were your 1/8th incrementals on that pass? Mine went a 6.66 @102 w/1.39 60 this year, and I've yet to get a 1/4 mile pass on it since the changes of the new combo. I run a 26" X 9 Hoosier slick on mine.
Both of you are turning great times, congratulations.I don`t know how large your wheel wells are but if you could eventually get at least 10 1/2 in. on the ground it would help a lot. Also I`ve talked to Andy Walker quite a bit in the last few years at the track, trying to learn some things, and he claims you won`t get really fast until you go to a tire at least 29in tall. Both of your cars probably would go low 10s w/ that tire.
When I went to E-Town two Fridays ago the DA was -500! I'm planning on test & tune at Atco next Tuesday Nov 12th. Hopefully get even better air down there.
Not bad for a 9" tire.....................not bad even if you had a 13" tire. I'd love to see sub 1.4's at the 60'.................very nice driving Duane!
I don't know if I completely agree with Andy that you need a 10 1/2 tire on the ground to go fast, the tire I run, a 4457 goodyear radial slick, is the tire that comes on the ford cobrajet NHRA stock eliminator car, its a 9" tire with a circumference of 92.5, a 29.5" that doesn't grow, Im not sure who follows NHRA stock eliminator, but they have a 30x9 tire rule, there are many cars that run in the 9's, with 60ft times as low as the 1.29's, and if you look at the new cobra jet cars, they run in the 8's. I think im getting close to needing more HP to run faster, I think on a real good day, icing the engine, and some more jet, I might get in the low .40s, but that's probably it, my car weighs 3180 with me in it, so I probably need to make another 30 hp or so to get in the teens. here are 2 pics from sunday, these are leaving 4000 on the converter, the car goes ALOT higher loading it up to 5000. oh, and my 660 was 6.625 at 101.79 on the fast pass Duane http://www.davemilcarek.com/110313/pages/11-3-13%201S%20029.htm http://www.davemilcarek.com/110313/pages/11-3-13 2D 115.htm
actually, I think putting a 5.57 or a 5.6 something rear gear would help it, I went thru at 8400 on sunday shifting just over 8500, but bracket racing it going 8600 to 8700 makes no sense, its cool to go fast, but would like to get 200 runs between freshen ups Duane
yeah.. I agree and I know for a fact that sticky 9 inch tires are more than capable on cars with dialed in suspensions. With traction compounds I've seen them get air on city streets and alot of the sleeper type racers run them where I hang out in the summers.
I got 8" of air under the front tires of my stock 2012 mustang using M&H 9" drag radials on stock 18" wheels. The car isn't that fast but they stuck with a 6,000 launch to the tune of 12.0's at 114 with high 1.6x sixty foot times.
I'd say that would be a really good time with a "Stock 5.0", only putting slicks on it.....................really nice 60' time!
Andy has been running his 408 for 3 yrs,he says all he has done is replace a couple of roller lifters.his car w/ him in it will weigh about the same as yours, however he also has a Jerico clutchless 4 spd,& turns his mtr between 7000 to 7500 & just went high 8s at Va Motorsports Park a few wks ago.He just says the taller tire w/ more gear is more speed,as we all know.I`ve seen this car run many times against cars w/ way more money in them,& it is NASTY.He built it himself & has been racing many yrs,so I`m not going to argue w/ him.
I wasn't looking to argue with anyone either, all I said was I don't agree you need a 10.5 inch tire to go fast, I tall tire gives you more contact patch on the ground, in fact the rule of thumb has been, 1inch of height is the same as going 3 inches of width on a tire. if hes running 8's in that mustang, hes got his setup, but there are guys in NHRA with new cobrajet drag cars running 8's also but with a 30x9 slick. that's all, no argument Duane
Hey Duane,I want you to know I`m not here to argue either. We all know what works for one guy or car, might not be so good for someone else.He runs an 89 gt hatchback Fox w/ the Classic Gear Jammers out of NC.Go to their website & ck out the many videos on there, his car is white w/ the blue pinstripes. They don`t get up this way a whole lot, they usually run VMP twice a yr,& for the first about 10 of thm went to MIR & ran a 1000ft w/ the Pro Stick guys out of your area.MIR did that because the Jammers run 1/8 mi & the Pro Stick guys & UMTR run 1/4mi.Andys car & about 5 of the Pro Stick Foxes were turning 7.40s in a 1000ft,not to shabby. The Pro Stick cars run Mason Dixon,Capital dragway & MIR all the time,it`s on their circuit.these are very fast high tech cars,ck them out sometime, boy are they fun to watch.
