I've got a 1973 Ford Maverick 4-door with some rust in some areas. Sadly, some area's (Back trunk corner) the rust has gone through.

What's the best way to get rid of it?

I thought i'd bondo over it but someone told me it wouldn't help...

Anybody have any hints or tips for me?

Sand it off. If you end up through the metal, weld in a patch. That is the BEST way.

Or replace the entire panel with new non-rusty sheet metal, which is the route I have been going, which is why my car is so many different colors.

bondo will work GREAT, for a year or so, then bubble up and pop off, and the rust underneath will be worse than it is now.

Post some pictures so we can see how bad it is.
