Interesting thing happened while using 0000 steel-wool to clean bezels the other night. While cleaning the chrome edge on the bezel, I noticed the inner paint (gray) had some chrome coming through the thin paint--just got 'em washed up from taking them off a car in the salvage yard. Anyway, further rubbing in the painted area exposed chrome all around the housing.
Guess it was easier to put the chrome on and then paint the interior for Ford? Anyone know anything about that?
I think it might look pretty cool with the whole bezel being chrome instead of the plastic gray look on the interior.
Anyone done that or discovered that?
If anyone is interested I can post a pic of the above discovery, at least for me anyway. :)

Yes the whole bezel was chromed before the argent paint was applied to the inset are.Being all chrome it may have some added reflectivity. That cant be a bad thing.

I dont think they are chromed, its just polished aluminum. The paint just kept it like new.

Headlight doors are the proper terminology.

Somewhere on the `net I`ve seen a Yellow Maverick with the headlight bezels polished like chrome. It may be in the gallery on this sight .

The head light bezel have an anodized coating, if you rub too much, you'll ware it through to the dull aluminum. Same with the hood lip molding, and the rear window trim.

Okay, I am talking about the housing for the side lights located front and rear on the qtr panels. I thought I read where they are called bezels. The plastic reflector like yellow for the front and red for the rear fits inside the housing and has posts that go through and brace on the inside of the wheel well that fixes it into place. Removed mine to do body work and discovered several were cracked or broken. Heck of a time finding ones to replace em that were like mine--newer models the entire housing is painted a gray, and the 70-73, maybe 74s have chrome around the edge but painted gray in the inside leading to the reflector that holds them into place. I was cleaning the edge of one to replace one of my broken ones when I saw that the inner part was showing chrome paint or whatever it is that is chrome like--sorry if I led you astray using the term chrome, just not sure of what else to call it. Hope that clears it up. I'll try and repost with a pic when I get a chance, just thought that was an odd thing to do with the part.

Those are bezels, the side marker bezels, which are chrome plated plastic, then painted :)
Here's an NOS one...and all it says on the box is "Bezel" and the part number.. Lots of bezel on a Maverick.

Yep thats one of them. If you rub more where its painted gray you get all chrome. One other thing-my plastic housings for the light and reflector were all joined to those 2 little tabs you can see as if the tips were melted down on them. I just took a screw driver and carefully popped the flattened/melted looking portion off. There was usually just two on each post edge melted to lock 'em in place. Then it just slipped right through the bezel so I could replace and or clean.
BTW, thanks for beating me to posting the pic!(y)
