Just wondering if anyone has moved their big bumpers, inward, it appears on the mounts that there are already holes , can I slide the bumpers so they are closer to the car, and then trim the plastic, piece that covers the space between the bumper and the car? Thought it would look cleaner, pushing them inward so the wouldn't protrude so far forward and rearward, looks like they would clear the fenders ok, has anyone done this.

Also what is the process to have chromed bumpers painted body color, Is there some sort of chemical prep to paint chrome, or does the chrome get removed?

Also I'd like to ad a hood scoop to look like the Comet Gt, anyone know if
other Ford or Mercury cars had the same scoop, does anyone sell the GT scoop for my Comet? Also can anyone tell me the demensions Height, Width, length?

I had my bumpers sand blasted to remove the chrome then primed and painted them.

The hood scoop was also used on the 69-71 Cougar's. There are reproductions but the bolt pattern is different . The cheapest I have found them is Crites Restoration

    Don't have the dimensions handy

Here's a couple of pics of my '77 with the front bumper moved in. Frank (71gold) did the job. He's posted how he did it on the board; do a search to find it.

Read the thread on the slide, what is stopping a person from simply unbolting the bolts that allow the bumper to " lside in the mounting" in board I can literally se thaose bolts from the inside of the fender, clearly there must be comthing else I am not seeing, if all this cutting and welding is going on to do this.

there are several way to go about it, once your ready, and have things removed you can figure out what route will work best for you. just like almost every other modification, there is usually more than one way to do things , as long as your happy with the end result.
