A buddy of mines has a Malibu with a pair of 295/55/15 tires stuffed in his rear wheel wells, Is there a tire of similar size I can put on 14" rims?

NO WAY to fit anything bigger than a 225 tire on that rim safely. i am running 275/60/15 on the rear of mine with an 8" rim and that tire maxes the rim.

you big silly you...you did ask for the biggest 14 inch tire, hehe. and there maybe bigger yet. p.s the first numbers are the height i.e. 275. the second is the width, i.e. 60. the third is the rim size. then theres the rating.

wagesofsin, I think you better check those numbers again. 275/60/15 would mean that the section width is 275mm across/the side wall is 60% of the width in heigth/ and the you are right about the rim size. So this tire would be 275mm or almost 11" across/ and almost 28" tall/ and fit a 15" wheel.

The formula for figuring tire heigth is width X %(ie 35, 40 50 60 70 etc...) X 2(because there is the heigth of the sidewall on opposite sides of the wheel, in effect 2 sidewalls) divided by 25.4 (to get from mm to inches) + the size of the rim. so for the tire above it would be
    275 X .60 X 2 / 25.4 + 15 = 27.9

thats cool, wasn't trying to put anybody down, just trying to give some info so that anybody could use to figure out the size of a tire they might want to run. That formula will work for any tire except the old style N50 kind of sizes.
