    how do I fix this...

Bird pooped on the car, got rained on, got home, wiped it off, and now there is a stain that appears to go through the clear coat. Almost looks like there is a delamination between the paint and clear.

We tried to polish it out, but it is UNDER the clear, not on top of it.

There are a couple of other small spots where the poop splashed onto the trunk lid...

Is that the rear spoiler on the Mustang? Is that a factory spoiler or aftermarket?

Start with some detail clay and spray to help neutralize the acids and remove the contaminants. Then cleaner wax or polish followed by wax.

wash it.. buff it.. if that doesnt work.. you might have to repaint it... seems to me, that if it is a brand new car, the clear shouldnt mess up already.. ask the dealer to warranty it?

Stock rear spoiler on 05 mustang with original paint, as far as I know.

Is this typical behavior for the clear coat?

Anna's suggestion (bear with me here, we thought this whole thing was kinda odd) was that this occurred during a really strong thunderstorm with lots of lightning. She wonders if a bird got hit by lightning and it's poop got "charged" or hot somehow doing extra damage to the clear coat...

    sorta drawing at straws here...

I have the clay, but I doubt it will do anything. The pictures don't clearly show it, but the clear looks and feels fine on top, nice and smooth, but it almost looks like it is lifting off the black, like there is a layer of air or water sandwiched between the clear and black. It really has an "LCD" appearance to it, almost "prisms" when you look at it. Does that make sense?

I may have to check with warranty (Anna's teacher friend's husband is the paint guy at the local ford place:cool: ) and get his opinion on if Ford will back it or not.

I asked about originality since not all V6 cars came with spoiler from the factory. I have a black factory spoiler on my car ... and the paint is as tough as the paint on the body. I couldn't imagine a bird dropping doing that to factory paint ....

FYI ... I removed the yellow spoiler on my car and replaced it with a factory black one from here:

It may be cheaper than repainting if you need to go that route ...

    Those parts ARE cheap!!!

This is a convertible, not sure if that makes a difference, but most converts I have seen have the spoiler. Maybe it was a local addition?

I told Anna she would learn to hate a black car...only paid two payments on it and already paint is flawed beyond repair (without forking over some cash).

V6 cars only had spoiler if it had the exterior appearance package ... If your car has the factory MUSTANG decal running down the side and Ford Spinners on the wheels then it would also have the spoiler since that was all part of the package.

Wetsand the stained areas with 2000 grit sandpaper on a sanding block and buff. That should take care of the problem.

The car had the stripe (has been removed) and still has the spinners...that explains the spoiler.

I may try to get brave and do the 2000 grit paper, and see if it works...but I am skeered:cry:
