    installed the engine in my '72 today and while i was laying on the ground, i noticed the casting number on the block to be really odd, it's D1ZM-6015-AA. ive never seen any maverick, or any other ford for that matter with this type of casting number. any have any input???

    BTW, this is the original engine from the green '71 GT i just bought. has the matching VIN stamped into the back of the block, if that helps anyone :)

    D1 =71

    Z= mustang

    M= performance vech

    6015- basic engine assembly

    basicly a mexican block (hi performance)

    A Mexican block will generally say "Hencho en Mexico" in the lifter valley, and will have a round knob around an inch in diameter sticking out towards the front above where the oil filter mounts

    There have been a few Mexican 302 blocks for sale lately here in Phoenix over the last year or so. Of course we are very close to the border so that may play into it.
