So some of you have seen that I purchased a 72 GT minus pretty much everything. Had no drive train or suspension. There is a thread on the MII suspension I am installing. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/start-of-mii-install-now-the-official-thread.98835/ That is at a stand still for now. I was able to get the front wheels on and decided I better get something going on the rear. Had a few setbacks along the way.. The current setback is that the garage is totally a mess. I had to replace a bunch of studs, all the base plate and all the sheeting on the back wall (need to do the other walls also). This required moving everything away from the wall. I also am having to replace the makeshift counter that was fastened to the studs by the previous owner. I'm going to just buy a rolling counter or something.. Anyway. Today was a great day because I managed to get the new to me diff sand blasted and painted. I just don't have any room to work in the garage. But once it's organized I will be ready to bolt this thing in.
Oh great, now I have to pull the rear end on my Comet and sandblast it as well... Really it looks good, you'll be rolling before you know it...
Here's another shot of it. I may as well do my leaf springs and drive shaft also.. I suggest anyone sandblasting to use fine sand. I been sandblasting some heavy equipment recently and was able to try different grits. Fine is the best.
That is some clean, Gene!!! I agree with the fine "00" sand. That's what I used to blast my engine compartment and it did not scar the metal at all. I'm glad you found a rear diff! Now I have to get MY 5-lug so I can catch up to you!! My 2nd Anniversary is coming soon!!
Its about time you got your rearend to work Nothing nicer than putting nice clean freshly painted parts on.
Did you disassemble the rear end after it was blasted? I would be worried about sand getting into the bearings and seals...
Nahh.. I left the drums on and didn't point directly at the pinion seal area. I do plan to check inside the drums as I have not taken them off yet. I may clean inside there but that's about it. Unless I do see something that needs attention.. I am looking and paying attention for sand breaching.
