I want to get started on some body work when the weather starts to get better...

My question, Primer before filler, or filler before primer. And which filler is the best?

    :hmmm:

Thanks, I thought that was what I had read. Do you put another coat of primer over the rage? Can you use a rust converter first? I have some pitting to say the least.

All depends on the epoxy you use, some say it's fine over some rust converters, some say no. You need to prime over the filler, before paint. You need to get all the rust out of the pits, before you prime.

I would sand blast the rust before epoxy primer. And yes you need filler primer after the plastic work.

The rage gold is amazing filler i loved it..but honestly if your just going for a decent driver i think Evercoats "lightweight" body filler would be fine..i think thats the name, its a light greenish can. i used it on a Tracker i did, was great & about a 1/4 of the price of rage gold...didn't get any pinholes with it as long and i layed it on slower.

This is going to be my Son's car. But I still want it to be as nice as I can make it. He picked Dead Rat Flat Black for the exterior color. And I'm still trying to talk him out of the British Racing Green for the interior and Engine. But it's his car.

If the car is being brought to 100% bare metal outside. By all means use a 2K epoxy first. You want to keep the vehicle covered, and safe from development of rust.

If you are merely sanding the car and doing bodywork where bodywork is due, then you can do either or.

You can place filler over bare metal in sections, and follow up with primer ,or vise versa. Both adhere well to metal.

As for fillers, you cannot go wrong with any of the major brands. I personally use 3M Bondo myself.

Be sure to follow the guidelines of the product type you are using, and you will be fine.

    - Metal replacement/repair.
    - Filler, and smoothing of body/2K epoxy.
    - I reduce my 2K Epoxy and spray before paint. In this case its used as a sealer.
    - Base coat
    - Clear Coat
    - Buff and polish.
