I am getting ready to re-weld my cowl cover back in place. Most of the areas where the spot welds were cut out should be able to take the welding but some are in ares where the metal is thin from corrosion. At those spots I was thinking of using a panel cement. Any suggestions on a good product
I find the product on line for as little as 28.00 but it says you need to purchase an official applicator gun that is super expensive. Is there another way to apply this product without the gun or is there something else out there for more of the hobby market?
I borrowed a gun from the auto paint supply store that I buy a lot of stuff from. No way to get it out without the gun.
The one we use requires the gun too. The tubes are different diameters so the mix isn't 1:1 so I don't think you can hand mix it.
I'll have to come up with another way then - I don't deal with any auto paint stores so none are going to let me borrow one of their guns.
I used the same 3M Panel bond for my cowl panel, stuff is amazing ive seen it used for some crazy things.... you could always come up with some make shift gun for it.... the applicator on the end is what mixes it so as long as it feels up evenly you should be good... i once had to weld a between 2 cheap screwdrivers and welded a handle so it would push out evenly.... just a few thoughts
I found a few SEM dealers not far from me so I'll have to check it out tomorrow. No prices on the SEM website
Google is your friend: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEM-Univers...Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1413 Buy it Now for $39. I know I paid around $50 for mine.
Thanks Glenn. I just purchased one of the SEM guns from the seller. Now I just need to get me some adhesive. How many of the 7 oz tubes would you think I would need to do a cowl? I don't know how far one tube will take me and do these tubes keep for any length of time?
The tubes come with mixing tips. You have to use a new tip each time you use it. As long as you close the tube up and keep it away from heat it should last quite a while.
