I'm gonna give it a try tonight...not many if any use it at our track to bracket race with... I think mainly because of cost and inconsistency.
I know all cars are different, but in my case the nitrous has made the car very consistent. The car actually gets tighter and easier to handle the faster it goes...somethin about the rear tires biting harder.
I should get 8 passes out of a 10lb. bottle shooting a 100 hp shot so it's not as costly as it could be.
Also it's not as hot here as it has been...so a sub 5.50 pass may happen if I can get into the "after dark" rounds.
    Anywho....I'll post how it went:)

Having "tried" to bracket race with Nitrous myself, and watching others, like you said, it's VERY difficult to be consistant.

It's amazing to me that you're running VERY consistant! Gotta love that - fast AND on your dial.

Good luck and let us know how it goes as soon as you can. :thumbs2:

VROOOM, VROOOM. Go get 'em buddy. There is no way you can fail tonight. If you win, HOORAY! If you don't, you gain incredible knowledge on the NOS setup.(y)

I never used it all the way when bracket racing, but it can help if you spin, or have some other trouble. Problem is letting off of it! :bananaman Then break-outs are possible. The Mustang actually is very consistent, even week to week with it. I just use it on non-bracket nights, since I run delay box/two steps, and don't want to run any timers/relays to avoid hitting it while the brake is on or two step activated.

Well......what a night. I'm gonna try and keep this short
    The Good
Got the car IHRA chassis/tech certified (already had NHRA certs.)
Was asked to enter the Topgun Shootout by the track owner...here's a flyer as to what that is all about..http://www.lowcountrydragway.com/site_v2/flyers/flyer_topgun.pdf
The car qualified 7th in the 8 car elimination field with 4 passes ranging from 5.54 to 5.56.
This is run on a ladder so I was eliminated by the number 3 qualifier in the first round...but this was o.k. I was ready to bow out...this brings me to...
    The Bad
I had also entered in the SDRApoints/Gamblers race...runnin both events caused me to have to "hot" lap, I had vitually no cool down/ charging time between rounds.
My secondary starter solenoid went south on me so we had to start the car with a pair of pliers jumping across the posts.
Needless to say but I don't like it when I have to do stuff like this...I tend to get "disconbobulated" is that a word? My concentration is not on racing...it's on the car. Which brings me to...
    The Ugly
I had made it to the 3rd round of the Gamblers race having hammered my opponents with 00 lights and 5.54 and 5.55 passes on a a 5.54 dial... my opponent dials a 5.50...I cut a great light, .001 and have a half car length lead on him at half track and he can't pull on me and then all of a sudden the car sputters and noses over on me then picks back up...by that time it's too late..I run a 5.61 and lose.
Everyone got it figured out...thats right I ran out of juice:slap: I lost track of how many passes I put on the bottle knowing I should change it after 7 passes I was on the 8th pass with it.

All in all it was a good learning experience... I think were most racers get into trouble using nitrous is shooting big horsepower and changing track conditions cause the incosistencies...as the evening went on I could feel the car getting loose so I softened the rear shocks to compensate.
Shooting only a 100 hp shot and the fact the motor only gets the juice AFTER the tranbrake button is released helps with consistency. I am gonna hook up a purge valve...this should help the consistency a little more but I'll need to stay on top of of how much juice I have in the bottle a little better and to be on the safe side limit the number of passes to 6 per bottle:rolleyes: .
Nitrous can be a good thing when used in moderation and knowing what the right amount is for your setup. I got lucky in that the first amount we tried gave the most bang for the buck...that said...I'll probably experiment with a 150 to 175 shot but for competition racing I'll stick with e 100 shot.(y)

    Ha! That oughta be fun!

Better luck next time out. If you're learning something new each time out, that makes you that much better!

I got the purge kit and remote bottle opener on tonight...this should help to make things more manageable... I still need an in car gauge to insure a constant bottle pressure of 900 psi.
I'm kinda up against it right now, Saturday night is the last points race of the year and I need to go probably 4 rounds to qualify for bracket nationals next month...I shoulda claimed 2 races at the beginning of the season that I didn't and I wouldn't be in this predicament..anyways...Saturday night will tell the tale:)

sounds like you had a fun time though. i just read an article where they say the newest thing is to use a 15lb bottle rather than the 10lb as it gives you more consistency because the pressure stays higher longer. it was a little blurb in drag illustrated.:)
