If the master cylinder resivor runs dry would that indicate a brake problem? The car is drum brakes all around, Does anyone know what type of brake fluid I need. Dot3 or Dot4? Would I need to bleed the brakes now wehn i pour more in since the master cylinder ran dry?

Dot 3, and yes. You have a leak somewhere. Follow the lines to each of the wheels until you find the leak. It's either going to be a bad wheel cylinder, cracked hose, or a busted line. Fix that, fill it up, and yes bleed it. Come back here if you need further help, and good luck!

Yes you have a leak...Find it first. You may have to pump some fluid through the system to find the leak...Dot 3 fluid only in your Mav/Comet. Pull the drums and peel back the rubber boots on the wheel cylinders. If any are wet behind the boots...Replace the leakers (just do all four) Check all lines/hoses and look to see if the M/C is wet where it mounts to the firewall(if so,it leaks. Replace it)After the leaks are repaired, you will have to bleed all four wheels...Good luck!!!

Check under the dash where the push rod from the brake pedal goes to the master cylinder too. Brake lines rust from the inside out. It a good idea to replace everything brake related (except the pedal) including the lines/hoses and related hardware on any old car if they are leaking or not.
