    Hey guys.
I have been having a shake in the front of my car when I step on the breaks.
I feel like the shaking is coming from my drivers side.
Well I put on all new brakes shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, spring kit. All new all 4 wheels.
    Well it still shakes.
So I decided to take it to a shop, cuz I don't have the time to work on it.
They told me that the front drums have to be pressed on to the hub. Thats the reason why its shaking. And they say its coming from the pass side?
And that they don't have the right tools to do so.
Now if I recall, I have never had to have the drums pressed on.
So I'm asking all you Mav/Comet motor heads to help me out.

    Any info would be great.
My next step would be suspension.

    Never heard of that???

You say it didn't shake until after you did brake work?
Was it right away after brake work, or was it days/weeks/months later?

If it wasn't right away, I wonder if you have a bad shock or separating tire.

    Doh... just re-read your post.
You did the brake work because it was shaking...

I would look for tire defect, shocks, and then upper/lower control arm bushings...
    In that order.

Oh, this might help narrow it down, or give other folks other ideas...

Do you feel the shaking in the steering wheel, or is it more generally spread out over the front of the car?

If you only felt it in the wheel, I might look at tie rod ends or steering linkage.

    Just a thought.

Shocks you say. Thats a good idea. Cheap too.
But I still never heard of the drum being pressed onto the hub. Have you?
I will replace shocks and see. They do need replaced, The are at least 5 years old or more. Don't drive it much, but that doesn't mean that shocks can go bad from just sitting.
    Keep the ideas coming.

The shaking is more in the steering wheel.

    Thanks Ratio 411

Since the shaking is ONLY when you step in the brakes...I think that would rule out shocks, tires, etc.

Yes.....I have heard or pressing on the drum to the hub. Most people (myself included) just use a big hammer.

I'm cheap... I would narrow it down and be sure.
But hey, if it doesn't hurt your budget to pick up a new set, it wouldn't hurt anything.

Mavericks don't have the type of hub that your mechanic is thinking of.

    Big hammer!:bananaman
LOL. Thats what I might end up doing. Cause I called around, and no one has a press to do it! I sometimes wish I worked at a shop that way I could do this stuff myself after hours. Hard to do with working these insane hours 6 days a week.

    On a Maverick?

Also, I am just throwing out ideas, but when you step on the brake, it puts all sorts of different stresses on the front of the car that aren't there without braking. So it wouldn't neccessarily (sp?) rule out suspension.

No I personally think its in the suspension. But everyone tells me different. Like the shop. And I'm not new to working on cars, I have changed tons of brakes. So I really discredit the shop. But still.
I have been leaning to it being a a-frame bushing. But thats from just driving it. And not really looking at it.

I like the upper arm bushing idea myself...
I just threw out the separating tire and shocks first because they are easy to rule out and relatively cheap.
The arm bushings are not my idea of fun or cheap.
I threw out the steering because, again, easy to rule out. And it's cheap insurance to check out steering linkage. Nasty things happen when tie rods and such fail.

could the inside of the drums be out of round?

you probably wouldnt be able to spot it with the naked eye but being as old as they are it probably wouldnt have then hooked up to a lathe. i did mine at school. i cant imagine it costing alot of money.

Bad A arm bushings will "usually" make the car pull to the side with the bad bushings.does the car pull when rolling down the road. Those front shoes have a Primary and secondary shoe.If you reversed them it will cause your problem as well.Primary shoe has less(smaller brake shoe) and should mount at the front secondary shoe is larger and faces rear of car.Drum out of round(warped) will do this too.Sloppy pitman arm/center link, bad tie rod end on side car pulls to.Bad strut rod bushings/loose strut rod (bolts on lower A arm)Switch tires front to back and see if problem goes away.If so its obviously a tire/rim or wheel balance.Jack that front end up and check for loose components(tie rods/ball joints etc...)good luck!!!
