Can a bad turn signal switch cause one or both break lights to fail? Current situatation: 1. Had no break lights. 2. had decent but weak left turn signal, Yet no right turn sig. 3. Checked all grounds and bulbs. 4. replaced break light switch on break petal. 5. Had both break lights working! 6. strangly enough, and with several tests...right break light all the sudden quit working. 7. last but not least, along with the right break light the turn signals don't work at all! Break light........I checked for power to the right break light and there was none. I replaced the socket that the bulb goes in and still no power to the bulb. The wire just isn't getting juice! Could the turn signal switch cause all this? Where can I find a new one? what years are interchangeable? (Mine is a 71) Thanks for any help!!!!!!! Big time! Mark
Yes. The power from the brake light switch at the brake pedal goes through the turn signal switch before heading back to the tail lights. That way one side will blink if the turn signal is on and the brakes are applied at the same time. Good luck!
try junk yards... i paid 10 bucks for my switch... up to 1972 should work for your car. ask on the "parts wanted" section of this board. somebody must have one they want to unload rather than just throw it out. good luck.
