Those splines were already on their way out when you went wheels up off the line.. and then the 2nd to 3rd shift just finished them off is all. lol
It's been rebuilt almost every season until we switched fluids last year. The fluid we use now is just night and day compared to Type F or Dextron, 44 passes with no wear on the clutches or bands. As for the Splines being on their way out, I agree we've been hitting it on the brake at 5k since 2008 it's amazing the drum lasted this long. I do have a powerglide to put in but still have to get a converter, shifter and adapter so may be next season. All in all the C4 is one tough little trans and can take a lot of abuse.
Check into the Kilgore turbo 400,it looks like the way to go if you really want to put the HP to the ground, because of it`s reduced internal weight, not sure of it`s cost.Sorry to see you broke, racing is expensive & that certantly does not help your cause.
Tractor Supply brand, Traveller Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid, 5 gal $34.99 Good stuff for racing, has a high flash point.
You will be glad when you get the powerglide in that car. Been there done that! LoL! What times are you running now? I'm an 1/8th mile car! What engine combo?
Home built 418, C4, E85, TEA TFS Highports, best of 9.87 1.35 all motor. Still got more in it thinking of hitting it with a 100 shot but better to wait for a glide.
You bet it is! There are some low 8 second cars running that little trans out there. The C4 can be built to handle everything you have there and even take a fair good hit of N2O on top of it all, but the price starts quickly outpacing a powerglide to consistently get er' done. The powerglide is a bit more temperamental about optimum stall choice but has less parasitic drag than the c4 does, even when it's been fully rollerized. Plus, the car is light and will respond well to the glide. Now, if you had a much heavier car with a wider/broader powerband?.. a 3 speed can keep you in the meat of the powerband a bit better than the glide and improve the 60 foots and et better. I saw that trans years back and that's a badass trans.
I was recommended the 46 hydraulic oil as well but was told not to use if doing a lot of street driving! The reason this is used in stead of Dexron is because Dexron has a Friction modifier to stop clutch chatter it causes the clutch packs to slip causing wear, the F type don't have the additive but has a lower flash point and will not carry a load as well as Hydraulic oil. The guy that recommended it to me said it may be Ok on the street but he had never tested it! Was your drum welded around the splines? I use a roller Broader C4 in my car and he says the Welding helps tighten up the splines so they don't let go!
