'Was going to make sure the Maverick was gonna make the trek down the track without any issues before loading it up this morning for a $500 7.0 Index race (1/8th mi).

It took forever for it to warm up and was running very rough. I was hoping (against hope) that the miss would go away once it warmed up.

    No such luck. 0 psi in #6 & #7. :( I haven't even checked the other bank.

Oh well, what's one more head gasket replacement in the whole scheme of things.
edit: I also have a CSR Electric Water Pump headed this way too.

Better luck to all the racers who are taking their's to the track this weekend.

    Man, that sucks!

I think you need to swap that crappy 347 efi for an 8:1 302, and I know just the guy you can trade with :D

Ha! I don't have any timeslips to back it up, so no, it hasn't been.

Quick summary: The 1st launch was with a 1.5 60' - I shifted from 1st directly to 3rd (C4). :slap: Figured what the heck, I'd run it out anyway. Result: 7.4 @ I forget mph (93-94ish?).

The transbrake has not held on all subsequent runs (as I suspected). So, the car would brake the beams, and because I wasn't trying to cut a good light, I took my time releasing the T-brake. I wound up with another 7.4 but with a 1.9 60' (I know the difference between a 1.5 60' and a 1.9 - I knew something wasn't right about the 60' because they all felt really good, 1.5X good.).

It took me a while to figure out what was going on until a buddy confirmed my suspiscions. He said he could see the car creeping forward while I was on the brake bringing the rpm's up.

There were some runs in there where I had to let off also - the car kept going left. I put more pre-load in the left side Cal-Trac and cured that problem.

So, to answer the question,no, my car has not run a 7.0.

I feel pretty confident it is a very low 7.X - if I ever get rid of these demons that are following me around.

I'll tell you for sure in a little while, but I believe they are the Fel-Pro 1011-2's.

Rick, why do you think you lifted a gasket?

Remember, if you ain't breakin' parts, you ain't going as fast as you can go.

Because when I took the right side head off, the #2 cylinder was full of water.

It was showing all the signs; intermittently running hot, running very rough even at start up (this morning), and ruling out the water pump, thermostat, and every other possibility (hoping I'd find something other than the head gasket being blown).

When I checked the compression, #2 was at 145psi when the others on that bank were 180. Also the plug was a rusty brown color all over (very different from all others).

There are some "witness marks" in the metal seal near one of the water ports where it was leaking - nothing as severe as I've had before (I've had some REALLY bad ones using Nitrous).

I haven't taken the right side off yet, but I won't be surprised to see a blow-out between cylinders 6 and 7. (zero compression). That one will probably be a much more noticeable FUBAR when I get to it tomorrow.

    ...
I was using my impact gun to remove the head bolts (after I'd broken them loose with my break-over bar). I tried to remove the head with the header on so I was using a swivel. Of course it happened, the darn-heck socket slipped off the bolt and flew who knows where so I decided it was time to take a break. I wound up jacking up the right side and pulling it out the top.

I already have the header off that side too - shouldn't take me 5 minutes more - after I find that 1/2" drive, 12 pt, 15mm, elusive socket.

Allan, yes, the gaskets are the Fel-Pro 1011-2's.

Now comes my delima, to re-use the ARP head bolts or not (I won't - it's just so tempting to do so).

Oh well, it's all part of the game. :drink:

I really don't have any good numbers yet where I haven't let out of it. :( I do remember crossing the quarter mile mark doing a 12.0 @ blistering 88 mph once :D
