Bumper bolts

I searched the forum, but only found info about chrome bolts and bumper swaps. I do not have any of the 4 bolts for my front bumper. I assume the nuts are welded inside the rails. What size bolts and threading do I need on the bolts to put my bumper back on.

Which bolts are you talking about, the actual chrome bots that mount the bumper to the brackets, or the bolts that mount the bracket to the frame rails? The Chrome ones are I believe the same as Mustang ones. Not sure on the frame rail bolts, as mine was a big bumper car that I changed over to the small bumper. I drilled all the way through the frame rails and used bolts and self locking nuts....

 

I am talking about bumper to frame rails.

 

I bought two of those "Help!" kits (red packages) with 2 bolts, 2 nuts, and 2 ridged locknuts/washers - spec. made for a bumper so the locknut (designed to fill the 1/8" gap and take up slack so the bolt doesn't rattle, come loose, or worse yet gouge the inside of the bumper.

Also, they are actually stainless steel caps - looks pretty close to chrome.

If you get a regular carriage bolt with a square recess - careful with the washer size since the bumpers are not thick and the square ridge is usually too deep. A big washer will trap mud & dirt inside the area.

 

Thanks, but I actually need to know the size of the bolt to hold the bumper rails to the frame.

 

Are the holes in the frame rail? Just measure the hole, then go to the hardware store, and buy some different bolts, and find what fits the best.

 

Thanks Dave. I finally crawled by fat butt under the car. The nut threads are clearly visible and should not be that hard to find a bolt.
