I was wondering if anyone here has painted thier bumpers.I am not sure if I want to but what would be the best method and what primer/paint?If one wanted to powder coat chome parts do you have to remove chrome and what would be the best method? Just wondering what is involved and what results would be.I am impressed with the overwelming knowledge and talent of board members and value opinions expressed here.

I painted mine, hit them with a DA sander, should have used a heavier grit though, and I painted them with rustoleum Hammercoat paint, hides a multitude of blemishes, worked pretty well. need to redo them however, paints a little thin at the edges and scrapes off

When I painted mine I sand blasted them to remove the chrome and allows the primer to adhere. I used the Dupont 3 stage sand sealer for primer and painted it. It has been on for nearly 10 years with absolutely no problems. It is all in the prep.

I had mine sandblasted also. Then a good primer and painted them. I painted mine because I didn't have the extra money to have them replated. Did them in 1984 and they still look great except for a couple of chips.

Ditto for me. Sandblast, prime and paint. No problems.

What blast media would be best?Would small blaster be strong enough to get job done? What would be less money - powder coat or rechrome? Can a part ,such as a bumper,be welded on without stripping chrome off first? Just wondering......

I had mine done by a commercial blaster. I don't think a small blaster would do the job.
You can weld on the bumper but you should grind the chrome off at the welding points.
