Hi i am obviously new here but i would like other peoples oppinions on buying a 1973 Maverick. I like the look of the car but it has a straight six and an automatic transmission. Im ok with the transmission but i was wondering how much power the six cylinder engine would give me. If i do buy the car what would be some cheaper ways to add power to the car without adding a turbo or swapping engines. Please comments i need all the info i can get

    Welcome from Manitoba Canada.

The 302 swap is easy and VERY well discussed on this forum. Do a search and get a ton of content.

There were 2 different 6 cylinder engines used. a 200 (kinda small) and a 250 (good motor for a basic driver) you could also get the car with a 302 (fun combo) turbos are cool but can be costly, 302's are cheaper (perhaps) and are my preference. It is your car so do what makes you grin. :Welcome:

Purchase one with a 302 already installed. Less hassle all the way around.

Welcome to the board. Any way you look at it the 302 is the cheaper build for the buck. You can build the 6 but it will cost you a lot more than the 302 and you still have a six. Nothing wrong with a 6 ( I have 2) but it is never going to give you the oomph a 302 can:)

I agree with Don. :yup: Had 200 and 250 sixes. Good engines, but I was much happier with the power boost when I dropped in a 302. (y)
