I just wanted to give a quick thanks to all on the board/forum here. I pulled my straight six and trans out today in preparartion for the new 302 and trans. All of your informative posts and answers to my questions helped tremendously. Thanks again...this is a great forum! One quick question. I'm going to need to clean the engine bay in order to paint it and was wondering...is there a biodegradable degreaser/cleaner I could use? I don't think my homeowner's association would like me hosing Gunk and engine oil down my driveway and into the drainage sewer. I was thinking some citrus oven cleaner. Any ideas? Thanks a bunch. Later, Josh
whatever you use will still be takeing oil off the engine and dripping that as well. you may want to put a drip pan and/or some rags down, maybe a little kitty litter, and try to contain it. or you could find a nearby carwash that recycles their water and take it there.
Unless he has a trailer, it might be hard to get it to a car wash in the current configuration. The little bit of gunk you put into the sewer won't matter. Besides, the EPA has made it so we can't even get the super good solvents any more. The off the self solvents and cleaners are just one step above soapy water IMO.
I have used Orange Blast from Greased Lightning and it works great. I would scrape the heavy stuff off with a putty knife first though.
Be careful if you use Simple Green full strength, don't get it on painted surfaces that you don't wish damaged. It will leave marks in the paint.
