I just got my 70 mav home and the old owner did not know if it has a c-4 trans or a c-6??? It has a 302 that has had some mild street rod work done to it..crawled around the car today and could not find a tag on the trans.. Where would the tag be located???? is there another way to tell IE numbers off housing??? The mechanic that built the motor knows his stuff and I wouldn't think he would put in a subpar trans....But I have no Idea and I don't want to drop the trans if it only needs routine maintenance...

Also found old clutch petal still installed up under the dash from original collum shift linkage...Amazing what you find under the dash:rolleyes: ......

No Mavericks ever came from the factory with a C-6. Only way it could be a C-6 is if someone swapped one in, but it's unlikely and not necessary. Maybe someone else can chime in that knows how to positively id the tranny.

Regardless of price, why bother unless you have a big block to go with a C6. The original floor is too narrow for a C6 so you'll have to cut and weld to fix that.

Broader Performance has C4's from $650 to $1650. They are good tranny's all you need to do is pick the one for the amount of HP you have or will have. They can also sell you the right converter for your application for an additional cost.
