Sounds like a possible leaking valve body or other VB problem. Hard to diagnose without really test driving etc. Have you changed the fluid and filter lately? A good shop should be able to put a pressure gauge in the port on the case, and then check things out according to spec's etc. Lot's of other things to check too, kickdown adj., modulator, band adj. and more. Find a good "old timer" transmission mechanic and he should be able to fix you up or at least tell what is happening to the little C4(which, by the way, is one of the simplest automatics out there)

I Agree. Very Simple Transmission And Alot Of The Older Mechanics Can Rebuild Them 'with Their Eyes Closed' Sort Of Speak..

Try adjusting your front band (the intermediate or second gear band)

Loosen the lock nut and hold it while you turn the adjusting screw in until it is snug (about 10 inch pounds) then back it out 1 1/2 turns and hold the adjusting screw while you tighten the lock nut.
If that doesn't do away with your problem you can get a shift kit to fix it for about $30. That is NOT the performance reprograming kit it is only a shift improver kit.
