recently i replaced my motor with another the same size(302). prior to this i have had no trans. problems.since then i developed a leak at forward servo. replaced gasket to fix leak, no go. started to leak more out each day. i was putting trans. fluid in bout every three days or so. The other day i tok my son shopping and was amazed at how good and smooth she was running. ive had it about four years and the difference in driving was very noticable.due to my over joy of this happening, it was soon ended and has stayed that way ever since. ive got no forward gears. strong reverse, but no low either.i pulled thetrans line at cooler and shot fluid everywhere so im assuming we have good pressure. tried to adjust intermediate band and no go.opened er up and found the piece that sits between the adjustment screw and the band end had snapped and was out of place. no apparent damage to interior of tranny thought i had it whooped. put it back together, did all the stuff-band, fluid ,etc... fired er up, and... NO GO.im extremely pleased with all this now! notpulled pan back off, double checked everything, and believe it was assembled correctly.now ive gone to trans shop and bought a minor rebuild kit for forward A servo and valve assembly, also intermediate band just in case.by the way, how much space is there usually between ends on the intermediate band when engaged1/8, 1/4, or better yet how do I know when its going out?my other question is this. upon reading your posts about c-4's im starting to think that maybe im wrong and it might be forward or one way clutch pack is or went bad. so far the tranny is still in vehicle and id rather not remove it but if its the band or clutches im gonna have to anyway.anybody got any ideas whats goin on here. id much appreciate some insight and knowledge. thanks . no forward gears, when i really rev it up they barely start to engage BARELY. reverse is strong butno low. fluid is good, adjustments are good, and i replaced that thing for the band. have a manual, just need some input so i dont have to tear it open yet another time after this. thanks sean
If you have no forward gears but good reverse then the forward clutch is probably gone. You will need to pull the tranny to fix it. It is also possible that the one way clutch is bad and the intermediate clutch is broken at the same time. That is unlikely but it could happen. Either way the transmission will have to come out for repairs to be made.
