Filled the c4 for the first time since putting the car together yesterday. I put two quarts or close to that in the converter. Then about 5-6 quarts in the trans. I thought it was gonna take a lot more then that to fill. My dipstick in park running and warm reads pretty overfull. No bubbles that I can see. Trans feels like its slipping under hard accel.

Wondering if I have a different dipstick then what's suppose to be in it or if that is definitely too little type f.

I had the pan off to install a new gasket so it was drained before I started adding fluid. Sat dry for who knows how long before I got it.

    Any ideas?

I got the trans dry. Converter was empty and couldn't see any fluid anywhere in the trans. Seeing how I only put 7-8 quarts in including the trans would anything cause it to seem overfull when it could in fact be low.

If u were to drain the trans by dropping the pan what is a good average of at you would have to put in to fill it? 10 quarts

Not that much unless you drain the converter as well and even then a V8 application is around nine quarts, otherwise it's approx 3.5qt for a pan service on a C4...

K so I shouldn't be far off. Converter and trans were empty and I put in about 8 quarts maybe 7. I'm gonna measure the dipstick when I get home and see if its in fact the correct one. If it is my trans is probably done for since its slipping.

Will do. Could a vac leak to the modulator valve cause it to slip?

do you know why the pan was off?
if nothing else, the seals are dry letting pressure blowby or valves sticking...

I removed the pan. I put it in the car without thinking and when I first filled it I realized there was non pan gasket on. So I dropped it and put a new pan gasket on.

A vac leak will cause late and firm shifts, won't be the slipping problem...

The older modulators are adjustable, there's a slot inside the hose nipple that can be adjusted with a small screwdriver... It can be turned in a couple turns at a time to see if that helps, if it stops shifting the adjustment is too tight(back off a turn)... If it's slipping when shifting to 2nd(either up or down), I'd try the band adj before the modulator... For that, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster in till it stops, then back off 1¾ turns retighten nut... Adjustment is just in front of the manual linkage...
