Helping my brother in law fix up his maverick with a new motor...

Anybody have pictures of clearance or modifications done? It looks like I need to get the drop bracket for the PS ram, but the clearance to the shift linkage bracket that bolts to the frame rail looks bad too since I had to pull that when I installed the motor this weekend.

We used Summit brand headers, seem to fit fine other than this but I haven't installed the trans yet.

Are they the G9031's? It says they won't work with column shift automatics. I've used Headman longtube headers, and they didn't either.

found this image in another thread, it's a granada shifter cable -
    [IMG]

this should give all the clearance I need and with a bracket mounted to the m/c should be nice and secure.

can this be reproduced with an aftermarket cable? I can't bring up a shifter cable for a `75 granada at napaautoparts.com....

Hmm, looks interesting, but like most "experts" say, column shifters do not work with long tube headers. I think that is why that thread was deleted. PM me if you would like to know more about why it can't be done.

Yea.. from searching the forum that seems to be up for alil debate. Either a cable or cut and weld ideas have come up but I can't find a definite "this is how its done: cut here, weld here, make sure its at this postition" sorta thing. It is my Sasquatch right now.

    What thread was deleted?

Old thread......But I will attempt the Granada shift cable install with long tube headers. One reason for it is that my car has a c4 out of a Granada, so one end is a bolt on. Only have to fab the other end. If I get it to work, I will post some pics.

Sounds good. Same issue here. I just disconnected my column shift linkage for now. Using the floor shifter linkage.

The Granada shift cable works great, all you have to do is make a couple of brackets. I modified the original column shifter to fit hooker 6901s. I drove the car with this and long tubes for four years every day. It still rubbed a little bit, but not enough to matter.

Mine has 6901s too. My car came with 6cyl linkage in the trunk, and I was trying to get that stuff to work and lost patience with it. It didnt line up with anything that I thought it should. I have a bench seat and really want my column shifter to work correctly, so the Granada cable is in on the trans end and waiting for a bracket on the MC end. I complicated it by putting in a power brake booster last summer, but I think it will work out. I will know next week-end. Did your shifter positions line up with that welded bar? That gets points on the simplicity scale.

The welded bar I posted is the two end points of the original 6 cyl column shifter from my car. The shift points lined up just fine and I drove the car with it (and no kickdown so I was shifting often) for 4 years as a daily driver. I did have to re-weld it once after those 4 years, and then ran it again with my 347 and Doug Thorley shorties.

I'm also attaching a picture of the Granada cable bracket Jack Grice made for his Maverick.
