    I have collected (5) C4 dipsticks w/tubes.
    2-are alike and don't fit.
    4- are different lengths
there is 1 3/4" difference in where the full mark is on the stick between two of them.
1- Craig... brought to me at the Roundup...it was like the one i had that wouldn't fit.
    1- i pulled from a C4 today, full mark 1 3/4" outside the tube.
    1-is a F.M.S. aftermarket...the full mark is 1 1/2" outside the tube.
1- Harold pulled for me while i was out of town.
none of the mounting tabs line up with a mounting bolt...:hmmm:
3 have the full mark up inside the tube.
is there any rhyme or reason to a C4 dipstick and tube?

    ...:bouncy:...

Nope... I've seen them all different lengths and marked.

Just have to make sure you get one that is matched to the tube.

Your best bet would be to order a new one. Maybe a nice flexible braided one that you can mount to the firewall or to the bellhousing. They dress things up nice and you will know it is correct.

They don't show a picture but here is a link to it at your favorite store

Here is a picture... it's for a universal one

    thanks Andy, but...
I have an aftermarket one and as i stated, it's reading...1 1/2" deeper... than the pan rail. on a stock pan, that would be only half full. i don't think the pickup could get the fluid that low.

    ...:yup:...

Hrm... I misread the aftermarket one for some reason.

Drain fluid, add the amount a C4 holds. check dipstick?

Frank the ones that register up in the tube how long is the nipple on the end of the tube(from the flare where it stops at the caseto the bottom of the tube) are they all the same length there:?:

do you have a source for this info. i have talked to 3 different transmission shops and got 3 different amounts. they say the size of my T.C. and aftermarket pan has to be factored in...:hmmm:

Ask whoever you got the torque converter from, as well as the pan.
If you can get the info on the converter, you can easily figure out the pan also by measuing it compared to a stock pan. Then take LxWxH of the extra pan depth and get the volume for this.

The pan should be "X amount of quarts extra" so add that, and then add/subtract what your torque converter holds.

Thats the best I can tell you... and I know you already know this information :tiphat:

Do you also have the pickup for your transmission that goes down into the deeper pan? Some come w/ them, some don't. I've ran them both ways and had no problems but I preferred the extended pickup

they are all the same at the installed point. it is the stick that is longer/shorter and the fact that none of the mounting tabs line up with a mounting bolt. the aftermarket one mounted to the head...:hmmm:
    ...:yup:...

Just a thought.... could the problem w/ it not mounting correctly have to do w/ having a big/small bellhousing?
