My C4 seems to be leaking from right behind the bell housing. Any suggestions on how to go about this? Does the tranny have to be dropped in order to fix this? Or is it even fixable?
be sure it's transmission fluid. if you remove the inspection plate is there fluid inside...front seal.
The bellhousing bowls out towards the engine block. Whenever it curves inward as it approaches the transmission main body, there appears to be fluid running from what I assume is where the bellhousing mounts to the transmission e.g not the rear main seal side of things so it's definitely red tranny fluid
Oddly enough I switched all three of those seals. I looks like it flows straight down the middle of the bellhousing...
Also, how much time is that gonna be? Should I take it to a shop to have it done, and, if so, how much would it cost if I brought them just the tranny? (Ballpark me here, already bought an overhaul kit)
should come from the inside of the bellhousing and drip from the bottom of the inspection plate if it's the front seal...
Bolts for bell housing to trans case may be loose and/or the gasket between pump and case is leaking... Pump is secured by the bell bolts I mentioned(at least if it's case fill) which AFIAK all Mav/Comet used...
So I have to pull the tranny, pull the torque converter out and then loosen the bolts from the bellhousing to the main body? At that point, I can replace the gasket that seals the bellhousing to main body and i'll be good to go?
That oil seal that surrounds the intermediate(?) shaft? But it rolls down the bellhousing from the back, not the front.
make sure the converter is seated all the way in (three clicks) or 1/2 inch inside the lip of the bellhousing... don't pull the bellhousing up with the bolts.
